First time here

One puzzle a day, the same for everyone. Three mistakes and it is over until tomorrow.

A row: ● ● ? ■ ● ■

  1. A third ● side by side is not allowed
  2. So the gap is ■: tap it twice

Rules

Diem of the Day is one small logic puzzle that everyone plays on the same day. Today it is a Halves board, hard. The clock starts with your first move. A square that does not fit counts as a mistake and is taken back, and the third mistake ends the puzzle until tomorrow. A new one opens at midnight where you are.

Four kinds of board take turns, one a day:

  • Boxes. Each row, column and box holds every number once.
  • Halves. Each line: half ●, half ■. Never three alike together.
  • Signs. Each number once per row and column. Follow the signs.
  • Garden. One flower per row, column and bed. Flowers never touch.

Every puzzle is hard, every day. (Diem #1 and #2 still followed the week: easy on Monday and Tuesday, medium to Friday, hard at the weekend.)

How to solve

Every board has exactly one answer, and you can always reach it by reasoning, one square at a time. Never guess: a wrong square costs a mistake. Start where the board is most crowded and look for a row, column or area with one gap left (the app calls this Last Spot). Then, for each number or flower, cross out the squares it can't take until only one is left (Cross Out). On Halves, remember that three alike can never sit side by side; on Signs, the small end of every sign points at the smaller number.

Want to practise the same ideas without a mistake limit? Each kind of board has its own endless page, with hints: 6x6 Sudoku (Boxes), Futoshiki (Signs), Binary Puzzle (Halves) and Star Battle (Garden).

FAQ

When does a new Diem of the Day come out?

At midnight in your own time zone. The countdown under your result shows how long is left.

Is it the same puzzle for everyone?

Yes. Everyone gets the same board on the same date, on this site and in the Diem app, so you can compare times with friends.

What counts as a mistake?

Putting a number, chip or flower on a square where it does not belong. It is taken back and one of your three marks fills. Dots on Garden boards are notes and never count.

Can I play again after I finish?

Yes, as often as you like, just for fun. Only your first go counts for your result and your streak.

Where are my results and streak saved?

In this browser only. There is no account; clearing your browser data clears them.
