Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 15, 2026

Diem ("we", "us") makes Diem, a puzzle game app with a few quick games a day. This policy explains what we keep, why, and the choices you have. Contact: hello@playdiem.app.

The short version

  • You can play without an account. Then your progress stays on your phone.
  • We never ask for your age, and we do not ask for personal details to play.
  • We do not sell your data.
  • You can delete your account and data from Settings › Delete account, or at playdiem.app/delete-account.

What stays on your phone

When you play without an account, your levels, stars, streak, shields, history, settings, the name and picture you choose for your profile, and any level you left half-way are saved on your phone. They stay there until you delete the app, use Settings › Reset all progress, or delete your account. If you sign in, the same data is also synced to the cloud (see "If you sign in" below).

If you sign in (optional)

You can sign in with Apple or Google so your progress is saved to the cloud and you can play on more than one phone. We then keep: the account ID your sign-in provider gives us, the email address it shares with us (Apple lets you hide it), and your game progress. The name and picture you choose for your profile (one of the app's own pictures) are saved in the cloud too, so they show on your other phones. If you sign in with Apple, Apple may share your name with us the first time you sign in. We use all of this only to keep your progress in sync.

Friends (since 1.0.5)

Friends need an account (Apple or Google). You become friends when one of you opens the other's invite link or types their friend code: there are no requests, and there is no list of strangers to browse.

  • Your friend code (like `MKDR-42`) is made the first time you open Friends, and it never changes. It is in your invite link (`playdiem.app/f/<code>`). Anyone you give it to can add you.
  • What your friends see: your leaderboard name, or your first name if you have no leaderboard name; your Diem of the Day result for today (your time, your mistakes, solved or not, never the board); today's score of your daily games; your streak together (the days in a row you both played); and the same results on the leaderboard's Friends tab for the week, month and year. Friends see each other even if "Show me on leaderboards" is off: that switch is only about the public boards.
  • Activity: when a friend joins from your invite, solves Diem of the Day, beats your time, or nudges you (at most once a day), the app shows it inside the app (a bell, a short banner, Friends › Activity). We send no push notifications for it. This activity is kept for 14 days, then deleted.
  • The invite page: someone who opens your link without the app sees, on playdiem.app, your name (as above) and your Diem of the Day time for today. Nothing else about you.
  • To remove a friend: Friends › Edit friends › Remove. You stop seeing each other's results at once. Blocking a player (… on a leaderboard row) also removes them as a friend and stops either of you adding the other again.
  • To delete: Settings › Delete account deletes your friend code, every friendship and block on both sides, and all activity you sent or received, together with the rest of your account. Signing out keeps your friends with your account; the phone goes back to a fresh guest.

App usage information

To see which games people enjoy and to fix problems, the app may record simple events such as "a level was solved" or "the daily workout was finished", with a random install ID, the app version and the phone's platform. They are not tied to your name or email.

We use Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the app is used and to fix crashes. They collect: in-app interactions (for example "a game was started" or "the daily workout was finished"), crash reports and diagnostics (what went wrong, the app version, the phone model and its operating system version), and an app installation identifier (a random ID that Firebase makes for this install of the app). Google Analytics also works out an approximate location, such as the country or city, from your IP address. We do not collect your precise location. We do not collect the Advertising ID, we do not sell your data, and none of this is tied to your name, email or account. Google acts as our service provider and processes this data only on our behalf.

This website (playdiem.app)

The puzzles on this website (Diem of the Day, Star Battle and 6x6 Sudoku) need no account. Your results, your streak, your best times and the day you first played are saved only in your browser's local storage on your device. We never receive them. Clearing your browser's data for playdiem.app removes them.

To see how the website is used, we use Vercel Web Analytics. It counts page views and a few puzzle events (for example "a puzzle was started", "solved" or "shared", with the page and the difficulty). It does not use cookies and does not store a personal identifier; visitors are counted for a day from a hash of the request that is not kept. It records the page, the referring site, the browser, the operating system, the device type and an approximate country. Vercel acts as our service provider.

Reminders

If you turn on the daily reminder, it is scheduled on your phone by your phone's own notification system. We do not send it from a server.

Children

Diem is made for a general audience. Read more in our note on children.

Your choices and rights

  • Turn off sounds, reminders and other features in Settings.
  • See, correct or delete your data: write to hello@playdiem.app or use Delete account.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
